I created a simple html document in
the /home/webmastr/pub/html directory. I called it index.html

I went inside the httpd.conf file and changed the document root to /home/webmastr/pub/html

then i also changed the document directive to the same as above. I restarted the apache server, but when i go to a browser and type i get the same screen that comes up when you first test to see if apache is up (the if your seeing this screen....etc)

What changes must i make to get this right?

Sounds like you done what was required, but just check that you changed the correct <Directory ...> directive, by that I mean you changed the <Directory "/var/ and NOT the <Directory /> directive ?

Also its worth checking that you are not editing a config file that is not the one that Apache is using (check for more than one .conf file) take a look at /etc/init.d/httpd start file to see how its being called and track down the correct config file.

If you still have no luck then post your httpd.conf here and I'll take a look-see whats wrong.

Good Luck.
Laurie.
