My name is Miaisha and I am in dyer need of technical assistance with my home computer. I recently loaded a HP cd writer 7200i. My system has failed to detect the internal writer. The trouble shooting log stated that several factors could have been the problem, incorrect hardware installation-I installed my writer correctly, operating system error-?,CMOS settings-?, etc. I would like to continue to trouble shoot this on my own. Do you think it is possible? Could you possibly help with a solution or refer me to a possible resource.

Thank you for yout time,
Miaisha

Did you set the Master/Slave jumpers correctly? James Collins

I have the jumper setting on Slave. I just now noticed that I can espond directly to this thread. I need to practice my lookin skills more

Does the BIOS detect the cd-writer (check the CMOS)? If not, then is there another cdrom or hard drive connected to the same IDE cable?

Make sure the drive is installed on the same cable as the original cdrom in the system, and make sure that one is set to master. Try not to have the cd-writer on the same IDE cable as the hard drive (for compatibility and performance issues).

If the BIOS sees the cd-writer, but Windows doesn't, then that's a different story. Try including as much info as possible on your next post...thanx

sorry to jump in here but cdogg Is it better to have both cd drives hooked on the same IDE cable?? Reason I ask is I use nero and it keeps telling me to switch them so they aren't. Also I didn't like the software that came with the Hp so when you do get it workin you might wanna look at nero or cdrwin or somethin.

Yes it is. Hooking a CDROM or CDR to the same IDE cable will not slow down your hard drive that way. Hooking the CDR to the same cable as the Hard drive will slow the Hard Drive down to the UDMA speed of the CDR. James Collins
