I'm trying to upgrade the NICI version on our netware 5.0 server. I'm relatively new to this and have had both the primary and secondary disks fail (hardware wise) in the past wee. The Novell site says to copy the liscense file xxxxxx.nfk and name it NICIFK on the server in the sys:system directory. Then I have to restart the server before running the upgrade. My question is how do I copy that file into the sys:system directory??? Do I do it at the server console, or through explorer on my admin workstation, Please help, any info will be greatly appreciated.

You can copy the file through Explorer or even through the NCopy (right click on your mouse). Another way of doing it if you don't wana involve a client is to use the Compaq File Manager (no, you don't need to have a Compaq server to use this utiltiy). It's an awsome utiltiy, it can even access the DOS partition and the _NETWARE directory.

Why do user go into a panic when a NetWare server goes down, but accept it as normal when a Windows server goes down?

Here's a link to the latest NICI version and instructions on how to install it. You install it via NWCONFIG, then it installs it properly. Just copying it to the server is a bodge and is not advised as the servers registry does not get updated with the install information:

"It's true, its damn true!"

TheLad - I realize that I need to install via nwconfig, but after I did that, the server started aborting with encryption errors. That's why Novell told me to copy the file (NICIFK) to the SYS:SYSTEM directory. I'm going to try putting that file in the directory tonight and I'll see what happens. Thanks everyone!
