Hi,
I have a custom server wich has a mobo asus p5b deluxe, 2 gb of ram pc-6400 ddr2, two sataii hds configured as mirror 1, E6600 conroe processor running at 2.7 ghz and windows 2000 server installed and this server is acting as a member server with 23 users added, this is not a pdc it is just a storage server with a folder PRO50 shared for all the users that need to access SBT, OF COURSE sbt and tables and everything is in that folder, ok here is the problem i have.
Sbt has been installed for yearS on an NT SERVER 4.0 SPK 6, THE worstations that access it, are a mixed of windows 98, windows 2000, windows xp pro, the reason that i added the new server 2000 is cause i have seen latelly that the NT SERVER box can be probably down at any moment cause the age of the server, so then i anticipated and installed this new WIN2K SERVER ,ok so what i did was i copy the whole pro50 folder from the NT SERVER to the new server, i did this while everyone where out of sbt in order to copy all the files, i went to each workstation and mapped each of them to the server for example, i named the new server SBT, SO in each workstation letter S is MAPPED TO \\sbt\accounting, where ACCOUNTING is a folder that is shared and in there i copy pro50 folder, so the shortcut on each machine should be s:\pro50\sbtw.exe -t, and it work ok, "THE problem is that after 10 users accessed sbt when the next new user logon on sbt, after this user select a module or whatever after a little while this user can get this error on the screen
"[ERROR 1705] fILE syualog is not available[exclusive use]
another user maybe reindexing this file or closing the period in an apllication that uses this file.when the user has finished using this file you should be able to continue."
RETRY QUIT
THOSE ARE the options buttoms i have to press, anyway if i press retry i will get the same message over and over, and if i click Quit it will quit, but the most interesting thing is that this cause also other users in Sbt when they move to another transaction or another module to recieve the same message and the have to quit, but if i have only just 10 users logon to Sbt i think this does not happen, the version we have is 20 users licences and we only need 13 users to logon to Sbt simultaneously, please i am very frustrated can any one help ? is there any special setting needed on win2k server when sbt is copied there ?, did you know of any isues like this any recommendation please help
Thanks
Ernesto
PS: i have reindexed all files clear all flags, have been doing everything i know, another test i did was i created a little EXE application on VFP 5.0 (and copied it to this win2k server) That will open a table and browse it, editing records on that table then i created a shortcut on each workstation pointing to where this exe file is on the server and allow each user to run it , in order to test if the server is falling or if it is network traffic problem and everyone can open this aplication i did w/o a problem , of course this application i created is small but i also checked the recources in my server when about 11 users are using sbt and there is not problem, i know all the files are in the server but it is a responsability of the worksattion to run the file, so i don't know whatelse to do.
