Hello forum! I apologize if this is wrong area. I need help using Word 2000 professional on windows 2000. I can not get an envelope to print correctly for anything. I have reinstalled my HP 693 inkjet twice and then it almost works but return address prints near postmark area and the (To) address fields prints very close to the right of the envelope. So I am thinking the margins are off. I have reset margins, used portrait-landscape options, and all is not worked. It shows that the preview is correct after entering addresses. I am thinking of deleting this and going back to my older office 2000 small business. Can someone direct me to any old threads or help in any way. One more thing that was confusing--some times it wants me to save all to doc 1 and this may be set in such a way that I cant change the settings. Please help , I will appreciate all you can offer. Okay, Tim. Calm down. LOL

First, many (MANY!) people have the envelope printing problem in all versions of Word. Here's what I suggest and I hope you like it too.

New document.
File-Page setup.
Paper size tab: choose Com 10 or Envelope, choose Landscape
Margins tab (adjust as desired; in inches):
Left: 4.25
Right: .5
Bottom: .5
Top: 2.0

Now, test and print. Tweak margins if necessary. If everything's okay, hit File-Save as. Change the "files of type" to Document template and let it save it in the Templates folder (that's where it belongs). Close it. Hit File-New and double-click the template you just created.

If you want more than one envelope, at the end of the address, hit Ctrl-Enter to get a new page (envelope).

The Doc1 syndrome. I'm not sure if I understand, but it sounds like when you hit save, it says Document1 in the filename box. If that's true, that's normal if you:

a) don't have anything typed in the document yet.
b) have something in the beginning of the document that is other than text.

Let me know. Mine always "grabs" the first few words of the document to give as a filename. Is that what you're expecting and it doesn't work? Let me know.
