Hi
I am a project manager for 5 years. My MS project knowledge is basic. Not very high level. I joined this company where my project's plan is broken down to micro level tasks and runs to 4000 rows.

The problem is the project has predeccessors, successors and other dependencies. The project is very dynamic with tasks changes, resource changes, date changes each week.

Its a nightmare to update it. My question is how to Know the dependencies when i make some change ? Scrolling 4000 lines to identify it is impossible. Example if i change date in row 10 and that changes dates in row 150, 199, 244, 566,880,1458,2678 .. How to know it ???

Hi Senorita,

In my view, a 4000 line schedule is far to big to manage properly. I would be looking how the schedule could be consolidated or broken down into smaller more manageable chunks.

Anyway, to see the predecessors and/or successors you need to insert two columns. Right click on any column heading. Then choose insert column and from the drop down box choose predecessors or successors and each task will show you the task number of predecessors and/or successors of that task. You can also see the predecessors or successors of a task by using the network diagram view.

I hope I have understood your question correctly.

You don't tell us what version of Project you are using but a couple of suggestions:

In Project 2013 take a look at the Task Path formatting option through the Gantt Chart Format ribbon. You can select a task and trace all successors, or just driven successors.

In Project 2010 and Project 2013, the Task Inspector will show you predecessors and schedule information for the selected task.

In Project 2007, Project 2010, Project 2013 the task form (Split from the Gantt chart) formatted to show predecessors and successors can help.

It should be enabled by default, but I'd also make sure you have Change Highlighting enabled.
