Please help a newbie with cropping question

Hi, beginner here. Wondering, how do I cut edges off of a file without cropping the image? For instance, if I've made zebra stripes, and want them to come off the edge of the page, but I don't want to show that they're coming off the edge.
 
That would be using a clipping mask. Make sure your 'zebra stripes are in a group. Then you can use the rectangle tool to create a box around the stripes excluding the area you don't want to show. select both the rectangle and the group of stripes>go to the Object menu> select Clipping Mask > Make. It will clip out the portion of the group of stripes that was outside the rectangle mask you created. This works with any vector shape you create to use for a mask.
