My company is building a new datacenter with a SAN. We are going to need a great backup product to keep us safe.

I'm currently running Veritas Backup Exec v7.3 and v8.5. I can't stand it; the error messages are more meaningless than Microsoft error messages, backups fail for no reason (or there is a reason but nobody on this earth knows it), and generally it's just not pleasing to me.

I have told my boss all these things, but "feelings" are not enough to convince him to buy me Arcserve 2000...and I agree with him.

So what I need are some documentable facts that I can un-emotionally list to him that will convince him that Arcserve 2000 is better than Veritas Backup Exec in a datacenter environment with a Fiber Chanel SAN. Things like "The error messages are very good", or "Arcserve 2000 on our SAN has been flawless / fast / reliable" or "Every restore I've had to do with ArcServe 2000 have taken one tape and 1/3 the time of when I used Veritas"; stuff like that. If your post begins with "I think" or "I feel", then please don't post it; I will probably agree with you, but that won't help me switch products.

Thanks in advance...we're cutting a check tomorrow night (2-23-00) before we go home, so please feel free to be verbose in your response!

Ah but we have a product called ARCserve2000 Datacentre Edition. Its easy to use and just for this enviroment [Try that Veritas Scum]. CA support ain't as bad as every says [specially with an Enterprise Contract] People who moan about CA support are just to stupid to understand the response the engineers give. ARCserve error messages are friendlier than Microsoft's and are either found in the help file or on support.ca.com. All else fails, call us.

Can't be much more help but any specific questions, let me know
