I downloaded the file I received with the xls.pif extension, but when I saw it was a shortcut to an MS-DOS program, I didn't double-click it and open it.

I looked at the shortcut, but could not find where the source file/target file was, and when I clicked on the descriptive tabs, it shutdown Explorer. I deleted the shortcuts, but am concerned about where the actual file resides that I cannot seem to find.

I checked the registry and all the steps to remove it, and it looks like it didn't not affect my pc, but I want to be sure.

Can anyone tell me how to tell if I
1) Have infected files on my system that I may open months from now....unaware....and how to find them and get rid of them

2) How to be sure I haven't been infected with the virus already?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

Thanks, I found that. It doesn't really answer my questions though, unless I missed something.

Just do a search on C: drive for the file sirc32.exe. If not found, then you got away with it this time! My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.

If you use the removal tools found on that site.. your questions will be moot.
