Environment :
office 2000/Windows2000(SP2)/Outlook2000-SR-1/Outlook is Group environment/All PCs are in "Domain"

My user got a meeting request and it has a URL. By clicking, he goes to the URL and opens Powerpoint file.
At first, the ppt file is open in IE(IE application but contents is power point) but, when he clicks page down(the scroll bar in right side), IE disappears...and 3-4 seconds later, the PPT files appears in Power point application...

hyuhhhhh....Very strange...

Anybody knows how to troubleshoot?

* I confirmed, IE-Tools -internet options -> Programs -> checked in Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default.
* When logged on as myself, there is no problem.

* I recreated his profile but, the same problem.

Anybody knows?
Thank you in advance!

Outlook is not the issue that is for certain.

Check the file association for PPT and see if the option to browse in same window is selected (assuming he wants to keep these files opening within the browser instead of the application).

thank you joegz.

Can you specify more how to check the file association?
I did, windows explorer->Tools-> File types -> checked [.ppt/html/htm ] extention "open" commend. And it seemed fine... Do you mean this?

Can you give more specific tips?

thank you very much.

Hello doldol320,
One thing you maybe overlooking is the fact that Office 2000 and IE5 are tightly integrated with one another.

Introduced in Office 2000 is HTML as a native file format for Office 2000 applications. This means that you can create a Word/Excel/PowerPoint file in the appropriate application and open it in IE5 with little or no problems.

Is there a need to troubleshoot? Or is this an opportunity to work with the User(s) to explore how this can be used to their advantage?

For example you can create a Word file "Save as Web page" then send it to a Client. As long as they have an HTML capable browser they will be able to read the file. No more issues about not being able to read files/incompatible file format. Excel spreadsheets can be "Saved/Published to the Web" to allow users on the Intranet the ability to view info via their web browser.

This may seem like an ad for Office 2000, but as a Instructor/Trainer I am always challenging my clients to use the software in ways they may not have thought about and how to leverage the most out of their investments in software and training.

Good luck,
Michael

Thank you michael!

The issue is a need to troubleshoot.
The problem is
Go to the URL -> there are some powerpoint files hiperlinked -> Click the link -> The powerpoint files are open in IE!

Until here, it seems normal.
But, when scrolling down the file in right side scroll bar(Application is IE, but contents are PPT files), IE Disappears... aslo, the contents are disappered with IE! Like a wind!!!...

And then, 3-4 seconds later, the ppt file REAPEAR IN Powerpoint Application!!!

Any idea?

The user installed lots of free software in the machine... is it a bug or conflicts?

Thank you.

Add ;-

And when the file is repeared in powerpoint, Powerpoint menu bar was different, compared when I open a ppt file directly...

In regards to the file association. When you bring up the file association for .PPT and you get to the window where the list of actions are displayed (such as OPEN) there should be a file labled "Browse in same window" that you can check or uncheck.

If it is checked the presentation should open and stay within the browser. If unchecked then the presentation should be opening in the application.

If it is checked you could try unchecking the option so the clients gets the presentation in the application instead of within the browser. That is unless he wants it to stay within the browser. joegz

Thank you all.

I got what was the root cause. It was a microsoft known issue. Only updating the office capsule will cure of it, if it doen't work, then, reinstall Windows 2000 service pack 2.
