Why is it that when I reinstalled XP media center edition, that I'm not able to play DVDs!!!. I have to download and install VLC player. Shouldn't XP media center come with DVD coder????!!!

It should, but it doesn't. Every Vista version that has Media Center (Premium & Ultimate) comes with a DVD decoder; XP users need to purchase a software decoder separately.

When I used XP Media Center (Before I went to KnoppMyth.. long live Linux!) I ended up buying a 3rd party DVD player, because XP wouldn't do S/PDIF passthrough with 5.1.

I was very disappointed in the DVD abilities of XPMCE.

I ended up buying InterVideo WinDVD 7.
