Playing AVI-files

I what to play a user selected AVI-file in a separate
window when a specific event occurs in my program.

How do I do to play AVI-files ?

What is an COM interface?

I'm sort of new in Windows development,
and what I know don't go deep into Windows.

WinAPI offers some functions for working with multimedia. but COM API is the best choise. By the way, Windows Muldimedia functions are based on COM(OLE2,ActiveX). John Fill
