we are logged in remotely to a TS server and we can pull up the witness web application - log in and see the recordings

we even saved a recording as a .wav and was able to play it back and listen to it

however, we do not hear anything when it is played back through witness's own playback function - we see the recording and the display - everything and the bar is moving to the right but no sound

When you say you have saved the file as a wav and played it where did you play it from. If you saved the wav then copied it to your system then played you are using your local PC to play the file. But when you play a file remotely using the viewer application it is playing the sound through the remote servers audio port. You should not be able to play any sounds via a remote login and running of any app on the remote server. Use the web application from your PC. Hope this helps. . .

I have the same problem.
When I save the wav file on the dekstop of the remote machine and I play it, I can hear it.
When I play it tru the browser the sound does not come out.

I have the same problem when replaying the messages from the IE8 on the machines running Vista.

Other websites play the content but CS simply does not play in the browser.

Any help?

Are you replaying the calls off the server, or are you replaying the calls from a saved .wav file off of your laptop?

The following steps resolved the same issue when I encountered it on XP PC's with IE8. They were extracted from a Witness Technical Bulletin IE8 Compatibility document i obtained from an Avaya partner.

Configuration
The following configuration changes and/or workarounds may be required:

1. XP
Viewer replay / AudioServer replay via Viewer /Media Verification via EM in Compatibility View is failing, the replay request is stalled and Viewer stuck.
Workaround for this issue, follow the steps below:
Open IE.
Go to Tools -> Internet Settings.
Go to Security tab -> Intranet.
Go to Custom level.
Enable "Display video and animation on a webpage that does not use external media player"
Click Ok.
Reopen Viewer and replay the call.

2. Vista
Viewer on Vista: on first access to Viewer Tab, the Download ActiveX is not prompted for the user to install, causing Viewer to stall.
Workaround for this issue, follow the steps below:
Go to Tools -> Internet Settings.
Go to Security tab -> Intranet.
Go to Custom level.
Set "Download unsigned ActiveX controls" to prompt.
Click Ok.
Reopen Viewer.
Go to the Viewer Tab.
Download ActiveX installer should pop-up to the user.

Kind Regards

Dougy
