Does anyone know of an easy way to play the sounds heard through a microphone to the speakers on a PC running Windows XP? This seems very simple but I cannot find how to do it. I don't need to recrod the sounds, just play them. Basically, I am trying to amplify the noises coming from a machine through the speakers.

If your sound card has a microphone input, you just need to enable the microphone on the audio mixer and raise its volume. The sound shall go through.

I think I have the mixer enabled, but when I speak into the microphone nothing comes out of the speakers.

When I run the "Test Hardware..." test from the Sounds and Audio option under the Control Panel, my voice is played back fine. But what do I need to set/enable so this occurs when I'm not running the sound test?

Are you using the mixer from the operating system, or the one that came with your sound card?
I use Win2K Pro and an Audigy 2 ZX card. I can enable/disable the microphone at will, but from the Creative mixer, the microphone just isn't listed. Dunno why, but since I had a workaround I didn't care.
