Play CD on handset to record Mail Announcement

I'd like to play a recorded announcement from a CD and record as a Meridian Mail announcement. I've seen someone wire a telephone handpiece so that it has an audio jack that can plug into a laptop and allows you to listen to the Mail prompts and hear the CD file so you can play it and press the prompts to stop and start recording.
Does anyone know which wires I should connect to the audio jack?

i bought one at radio shack. can you put the cd in your pc and use recorder to capture the wav file? i usually import those from web servers, there's tons of free wav files that work very well, i had bogart answering my ext for a while
