What platforms can oracle be run on?

IBM mainframes, Vaxes, almost any unix box, linux, Windows, and, very badly, Macs.

HP and Sun unix boxes are ideal, IMNSHO.

I like multiple CPUs, vast amounts of RAM, cached hard drives, logical storage management, and RAID drives with Oracle.

I find Oracle likes lots of small drives better than fewer large drives, and multiple tablespaces much better than multiple instances.

My production (1997 purchase) Sun is 8 250 Mhz CPUs, 4.25 gig of RAM and a RAID array with 64 meg of nonvolatile RAM holding 35 9 gig drives, supporting 66 gig of data for 300 users.

a current purchase might use 3 1 Ghz CPUs and would have to use larger drives, but could have more NVRAM
