Does anyone know of the file/website that provides a comprehensive comparison of possible volume/directory structures, highlighting their strengths/weaknesses?

Don't know of any web sites, but here are some of MY tips.
Keep as may APPS, DATA, etc on any volume EXCEPT the sys: volume. If the SYS: volume becomes too full you risk chances of crashing the server. I use a tree format.. On my DATA: dir I start with an APPS folder then work down further as different versions of programs exist. eg.
DATA:apps/wordpros/msword/ver5.....
DATA:apps/wordpros/msword/ver2.....
DATA:utilities/network/novell/.......
Also for each department that will be working and sharing data I set up a SHARED directory for them which stops each of them from sending the same document through e-mail several times a day.
