WinNT 4 after SP# required that passwords should be sent between the the Win client and Samba server encrypted. There used to be a description inWinNT.txt of how to change the registry to stop this. What happens in NT 5...er sorry Win2000? the hack doesn't seem to work there..... I couldn't find the registry attribute that was described in WinNT.txt :-(

thanx

check the /usr/doc/samba-xxx (where xxx is the version of samba that you are using) for *.reg files for NT4. All you have to do is copy the *.reg to your NT machine and double click on the file and allow it to add the changes to the registry. As far as I know, the Samba team are working like demons to get Samba interoperating with Win2000. Conspiracy theorists (aka anyone who doesn't want to run Win2000) believe that MS changes the encryption method used in order to stop Samba from working with it. I understand that getting this to work is (one of?) the highest priority items for the Samba team at the moment.

Check for the latest updates. [sig]<p> Andy Bold<br><a href=mailto: > </a><br><a href= > </a><br>"I've probably made most of the mistakes already, so hopefully you won't have to..." Me, most days.[/sig]

I saw your message judging by the date I assume that you have solved the problem by now. It is possible to fix it the same as always by adjusting the plaintextpassword setting in the registry. If you have not fixed this problem try doing a search on [samba win2000]. At Least on of the hits will tell you how. I have done it several times and it works.
