I'm using SnagIt to capture screens that I need to place on a page. When I place it as a JPG or PNG or PDF it comes in all fuzzy - pixelated. How can I get a clear image? The image is not fuzzy when viewed in SnagIt preview.

See if View menu/display performance/high quality helps. If so, you cna go to Preferences and set that as the default.

Be careful with screen grabs if you intend to send work out for professional printing. The resolution is often very low on screen grabs.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

...as a screen capture is a synthetic image, often resizing in indesign will suffice, so long as it is a reduction in size, if you do have to resample, interpolate in photoshop using 'nearest neighbour' algorithm can help, often though resizing inside indesign can result in better output...

Whenever I am making screen grabs I put the resolution of the monitor up as high as possible. Say for example 1024 x 1278 or something like that. All screen grabs are 72 dpi or ppi if you like.

But if you resample an image that is 640 x 480 to 300 dpi from 72 dpi then you will get an image that is 2" x 2" or something, I'm hungover this morning so bear with me.

But if you resample from 1024 x 1278 then you will obviously get a larger image when you resample it.

I think that's right, but my head is fuzzy, not clear at all at the moment.

It also helps to turn off ClearType (Windows) or font smoothing (Mac) before taking screen grabs.
