Placing a transparent image from photoshop 1

I am trying to place a transparent image from photoshop into illustrator 8.0
It shows up with a white background though. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of that white background, or what to do differently in photoshop?

I meant, placing an image with a transparent background.

If I remember correctly, transparency support only dates back to Illustrator 9. In 8, you'll have to use a clipping mask.
