I'm going to start learning about PIXs and am wondering what models should I aim for? I would like to learn about everything including things such as statics, ACLs, VPN access, .etc. I'm thinking about two 515s? Any suggestions? Or is that too much or too little? Just like CCNA and CCNP, Cisco has an Academy Program dedicated to them is there one that is just about PIXs?

Thanks.

I don't know about an academy, but they do have courses. The exam is CSPFA unless it changed recently, and there's a course for it and one combined with CSVPN.

A 515 would be fine. I think it's the smallest that lets you try out all the functions like failover and multiple interfaces.

501 is going end of life in a year or so i have heard so the 515 would be a better choice

oneciscokid,

Yes Cisco does have a Cisco Network Academy for Security which of course covers the PIX, you will not find as many schools offering security as you will for CCNA.

From Cisco -

Course Catalog

Fundamentals of Network Security

Fundamentals of Network Security will teach students to design and implement security solutions that will reduce the risk of revenue loss and vulnerability. As with existing courses offered by the Cisco Networking Academy, the focus of the course will combine hands-on experience, instructor-led and e-learning for students.

The 70-hour course will be an introduction to network security and overall security processes. There will be particular emphasis on:

Security policy design and management
Security technologies, products and solutions
Firewall and secure router design, installation, configuration and maintenance
AAA implementation using routers and firewalls
VPN implementation using routers and firewalls

This course prepares students to take the SECUR (Securing Cisco IOS Networks) and CSPFA (Cisco Secure PIX Firewall Advanced) exams in preparation for the Cisco Firewall Specialist.

Hope this helps -
