Could be a number of reasons for this, the most likely being that you are printing to a non-postscript printer. That being the case, Quark will only output the lo-res preview that you see on screen.
It could also be that the options tab in the print dialog box has pictures output set to low resolution instead of normal.
There are a number of reasons for this.....
1. if you r using a non-postscript printer or a non- postscript driver.
2. if the Print dialog box -> options tab -> picture LOW RESOLUTION then change to NORMAL.
3. If you are using EPS, make sure the option in Print dialog box is not OMIT TIFF & EPS
4. You can use more of TIFF formats because they go better even for non-postscript printers.
5. You can also export as PDF from QXP and open acrobat and print(quality is still better).
