I purchased a 506e from someone, he could not remember passwords. done the research and have found the instructions to perform a recovery. I receive errors when initially booting the 506e and breaking into monitor mode. Captured text is below. My problem appears to be with ethernet port auto negotiation is timing out. I have tried connecting 506e E0 to :
computer
switch
router
have tried x-connect and straight through cables, no help. Also tried 506E0 to switch, switch to computer, no help

I am out of ideas, is there anyway to get around this?

Thanks,

Mark

1: i8255X @ PCI(bus:0 dev:13 irq:11)

Ethernet auto negotiation timed out.
Ethernet port 1 could not be initialized.
Use ? for help.
monitor> interface e0
0: i8255X @ PCI(bus:0 dev:14 irq:10)
1: i8255X @ PCI(bus:0 dev:13 irq:11)

Things to try -
1. Try e1 instead.
2. Have you hard set the computer to 100 full or is it set to auto? Try it @ 100F and see if that does it. If not, when the auto negotiation fails I believe it drops to 10 half. Try setting the computer to that and see if it fixes the prob. (Use a cross over)

why don't you try and connect via console...then you can set your speed

What I found out was, to have the port initialize, it needs to be connected to a "live" connection. Solved that issue.
I consoled in to the firewall with my desktop, I used my laptop to connect via ethernet x-over cable to ethernet1 interface. Its funny, I get a connection light and communication light flashing on the laptop and the network light is flashing on the pix. So I am suspect of speed/duplex issue. I tried several settings of 10mb/100mb and haf /full duplex. When I purchased this, he gave me no info about it, so everything is a shot in the dark.
Will try working with it this evening again as well

Thanks,

mark
