pix-to-pix vpn & windows messenger

I currently use Exchange 2000 Instant Messaging Service with the clients using Windows Messenger to contact my Exchange server for IM services on my lan. However, windows messenger will not work through the cisco vpn client because of a Microsoft issue with messenger and vpn tunnels.

My question is, has anyone got Windows Messenger via Exchange to work through a pix-to-pix vpn connection. I know you can do h.323 apps like this, but has anyone seen Windows Messenger being able to work this way?
