Bit of an embarassing issue here. We're establishing a pix-to-pix lab specifically for VPN configs. I've heard that placing a switch/hub in between the two pix's works when plugging cables up to outside interfaces.

Is this correct??? If so, then how are the gateway IP addresses (in 'route outside' entries on pix's) used and does it matter what they are??

So simple a problem but could make or break my lab. I have been building various VPN configs in the lab with no success. It must be my physical setup. Please advise on physical layout particulars and the issue with 'route outside' (perhaps route outside commands are not essential to simple VPN?).

Thanks for the feedback.
