Has anyone here done any of the Cisco Security Specialist certification? What are the main differences between the exams 'Managing Cisco Network Security' and 'Advance PIX configuration'? Are Ciscopress books the best learning resource for these exams?

Thanks

HI.

I have done the CSPFA exam a bit less then a year ago.
I'm about to do MCNS in the near future also.

I don't know the differences but there must be many common and overlapping questions because I remember that in the pix exam I had many CBAC questions. I guess that MCNS will have some more AAA questions.

Did you take the MCNS already?
Once you take it, please write here some tips.

I did take a Cisco course and read the folders I got in the course. Those folders are not so good for reading but were enough for me, with some field experience and practice.

A "normal" book instead of those folders will probably be more interesting and helpful.

Here is what I wrote here after the exam:

I've done the CSS1 certification and as far as MCNS, I would highly recommend that you do it LAST.

MCNS covers all three topics covered in the IDS, CSPFA, CSVPN exams, but at a higher level in addition to some basic security concepts.

I did the MCNS last, and I absolutely killed the exam with minimal studying.

Good luck

Hi Yizar,

Sure, I use three basic fundamentals when I go to study.

For all my certs (CCNP, CCDP, CSS1) I read the Cisco Press cover to cover first.

Then I do the Boson exams (usually two sets) for each course. When I have the two sets I ALWAYS do all the questions in one shot (i.e. 200+ questions per set, for a total of 400) and see where I lie. If I can get 90%+ on each, then I'm ready. If not, I go through them again.

As a followup, I read the Cram Session notes, but unfortunately there aren't too many notes on the courses since it's still considered pretty new. I also go to Cisco's CCO site and go through the forums there as well.

Hope this helps!
