HI.
Try to configure the second (the new) DC, to use the DNS server of the existing DC.
Try to set a lower MTU on both server - you can test with:
ping -f -l XXXX a.b.c.d
to find the best value.
After the initial dcpromo process, you should configure the AD Sites and Services so that each DC will be in a different site. That way you have more control over future AD replication.
