I am atempting to upgrade my PIX 520 from OS 4.4(9) to a higher version. I have all the OS versions available to download from CCO plus some that have been taken off.
However,I cannot find any commands that deal with TFTP in this version so I am trying to use boothelper bh512.bin. All is fine and the PIX boots up with the disk, but when I get to the part where I issue the TFTP command to actually start the process this is what I get:

tftp /cisco/pix514.bin@10.1.1.4tftp failed: Unspecified Error

I have done the procedure by the book and I can PING the server from the interface and the interface from the server so connectivity is not the issue. This is also the CISCO TFTP server that I use for all the routers and switches and it works just fine on those.
I also swapped another Flash card, but the results are the same. Any ideas ?

Any help is appreciated :)

First, I use a shareware program called "Pumpkin" as a TFTP server. It's freely available for download. Once it is installed, make sure you point the default directory to where you image files are stored.

Next, when I upgrade the PIX image, I boot into the monitor (">" prompt) by hitting CTRL-BREAK during boot-up.
Make sure you have the inside interface plugged in to the same network as your tftp server.
From here, type "help" to see the commands.
If memory serves, I use:
address <address to give the inside interface>
server <address of the tftp server (my laptop)>
file <name of the image file you want to copy>
tftp ;this initiates the transfer.

Then again, I haven't done this on a 520, just 506 and 515!

hope this helps,
-gbiello
