I have a PIX 520 that absolutley wont respond to keyboard input. Thankfully this is a non-production PIX for LAB use. But it's useless if I can't access it.

Even at boot up it does not respond to the break key.
It will boot up with floppy.
Anyway to reset is via shorting a bois pin inside or something?

How can I use boot helper to wipe out the IOS and rebuild it?

Steven16 - First make absolutely sure your terminal and serial port settings
(baud, handshaking, parity, stop bits, data bits etc)

are correct.

"Step 6 At the COM1 Properties dialog box, set the following fields:

Bits per second to 9600.
Data bits to 8.
Parity to None.
Stop bits to 1.
Flow control to Hardware."

If you still can't connect, you need to tftp any PIX above 5.1.4 I think - it won't fit on a floppy. You also need to search CCO -

go here
to register -

I just went and searched CCO for boot helper pix and came up with your answer.
(it's fairly long so I won't post it in its entirety here)

go here - -

to download PIX software -

go here - -

to get a tftp server program
(you can search for other tftp software - this is just the one that Cisco has)
