Hey all-

SNOW SUCKS! I have a PIX and a 2600 router, what ports do I use to make this connection?

PIX port?-------------2600 router port(192.168.1.x)?

new to this stuff.. very new!

Cheers!

You could plug the router directly into the PIX w/ a crossover cable. Router placement depends on your network. Please explain.

yes, We are making a new integration for a company and the lightpath T1 connection comes in and connects to a 1700 router which then should connect to a newly installed PIX 515e which then connects to a 4 cabled 2950 switches. So just use a crossover to connect the 1700 to the PIX or is there a more proper way to implement this scenario..

Thanks - G

HI.

I guess that you mean the perimeter 1700 router that connects to the ISP in both statements, right?

The pix "outside" interface which is called also "Ethernet 0" should connect to the Ethernet port on the router.
This can be done with a cross-over or "normal" cable if you can change the port type on the router (many routers have a small switch to select HUB or PC. The Pix is like a PC for that when using a normal cable).
The pix outside interface and the perimeter (external) router Ethernet interface should use ip addresses from a registered "real" ip subnet, and the pix should be the only device that performs NAT. The routers should be configured only for routing. The perimeter router should use registered ip addresses and the internal router will route your private LAN ip addresses.

The "inside" interface of the pix which is also labeled "Ethernet 1" will connect to either the internal router or switch depending on your configuration.

Bye
