Hello,

Just a quick question. I am trying to place a Cisco PIX506E in line with our current network, which uses a Cisco 2600 router to connect our LAN with our T1. The PIX will be placed after the router, and traffic will pass through accordingly. I have all of the settings prepared on the PIX, and the only problem I have when placing it into the environment is that there is no link between the two appliances. The actual physical connection shows as 'up', but the line connection is down. I get no 'link' LED activity on either side. Question is, should I be using a crossover cable between these two devices? It seems like that is the only thing that could be causing the problem (interfaces are enabled on both machines). I will be unable to pull any logs or configs from the PIX until after hours today.

Thanks for any help,
-cakestick

Yes, a crossover cable is needed if a hub or switch isn't used between the devices.

Thank you, I was almost certain of this, but there was no definitive evidence online. Must be too obvious! ;-)
