Hello,

I have a PIX 501 installed in my lab which connects to a Cable Modem using DHCP. All is fine, but I would like to proceed by granting telnet to outside users via a port redirection to my 2509 access router.

Can anyone assist with what I need to add to the 501? Also, any idea how to change the telnet to a dynamic port on botht the 501 and 2509?

As always, thanks!

Rgds,

John Judge

But isn't your pix connected to the cable modem, where is the 2509 in the picture ? Also, don't use telnet...if you have to have access to the pix from the outside use ssh.

The PIX is connected to my cable modem and the 2509 sits on my LAN. The rest of my lab is not on my LAN, but is connected via the 8 async lines off the 2509.

I guess my question would be, what do I need to add to the PIX 501 and 2509 to get a secure outside connection?

Thanks.

Aah, now i can see what you wan't. reverse telnet from the 2509 so you can go to the console ?

Well all you need as to do a static nat translation from the outside interface to the ip address of the router, on the port that the serial is on, like 2065 or whatever it uses.

static (inside, outside) tcp interface 2065 <inside ip of router> 2065 netmask 255.255.255.255 and of course the appropriate access-list for enabling access.
