I have a Sony Vaio and I just upgraded from ME to XP. My DVD Drive hasn't worked since upgrading. It reads everything but DVD's. It acts like the disk isn't even present. I have found some other threads that have said they have had the same problem but never found the answer. I've tried reinstalling already but no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.
thanks!

Things to check:

1) Make sure your DVD-ROM drive is set to the appropriate region
2) Verify that the DVD playback software you have installed opens - you might want to try uninstalling/reinstalling it regardless since you upgraded and didn't format
3) Check the manufacturer's website for compatibility issues - might need a "firmware" update for XP.
4) Try the drive in another PC
5) Try cleaning the laser lens using a can of compressed air and spraying into the drive
