I have a very specific DOS program that I am running in XP-PRO. Although the program runs fine, I cannot connect to any available network printers.

So the question is.... can I map a local LPT to a network printer (static IP).

Any help greatly appreciated.

P.S. This was very simple in previous WIN/OS's, but for the life of me, I can't find any way in XP-PRO.

At a command prompt enter:

net use lpt1: \\computername\printername /PERSISTENT:YES

That maps lpt1 to printername and keeps the connection

I tried the 'net use...' routine before, but my network printer isn't on a 'computer'. The only reference to the printer I have is an IP address and the 'net use...' will not accept that.

We have a similar setup on our campus and the printer is setup on a print server in order to enable us print. Then we use the 'net use' command for pur printing.

You can try to create the printer locally and connect via TCPIP. Then share it and use

net use lpt1: \\localcomputername\sharename /PERSISTENT:YES
