pinging remote server using a mac

what is the mac equivalent to ping and where do i find it - as i'm trying to help a friend diagnose problems on his connection to his web site.

Another great program is whatroute. It is freeware and was at least at one point available on Apple's OS 9 cd if you did a custom install.

What's new in this version:

* PING Distribution Graph
* MultiPing - successively ping each hop in a trace
* LAN monitor - port of the Unix tcpdump command
* Address Scan - function for finding all active hosts on a network
* ICMP traceroute probes - maybe useful for getting out through a firewall.
