Hi, In order to see how many hosts are alive on network, can we ping a range of IP addresses? Or is there any other way I could find the live hosts on the network without using port scanner or pinger?

Many thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Chkmg

Hello
Try "ping 255.255.255.255" or "show arp"

Many thanks Minue. You relly saved the day! BUT the show arp command showed much less hosts alive than the ping 255.x.x.x command. And I know the ping command showed the true picture. Why weren't those hosts in the arp out put?

Regards,

Chkmg

You are welcome! The arp table times out after a default time, that I don't remember of my head ;-( You can set the arp time-out to like an 1 hour to see your clients. This also is good because it cuts down on the broadcast. Also after the ping, you should have seen all the clients in the arp table.

I thought so. Thanks again!
