I have a Toshiba portable computer with Windows XP and an Intel wireless network adapter. I cannot connect to my wireless router. It sees the router and says it has an excellent signal but will not get an IP address. When trying to ping the router, I get a ping error code 65. The ping will not transmit. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

Is the access point that you are trying to connect with encrypted? If you do not have the proper encryption configuration the adapter will frequently associate with the access point, but will not establish an IP session, therefore no address.

BTW, if you do not get an IP address, you will not be able to ping.
