Ping servername response is slow

First time posting, bare with me. Have a Win95 machine networked to NT4 server. Can ping by ip number and will respond promplty. But when ping by servername it will take 60 to 70 seconds for a response. Have removed and reinstalled NIC drivers and added servername and IP address to hosts file.

What about the DNS itself?
Admin assigned IP, or DHCP? Cheers,

I'm having exactly the same problem with a bunch of 98 laptops - have replaced nic drivers, changed node type, removed and readded networking, added them to host files etc - did you ever get to the bottom of this?
