ping problem access across 2 subnets

can anyone tell me why you wouldn't be able to ping an ip address across a subnet until you navigate through network neighborhood and click on the pc with that particular machine. This happens intimately. Sometimes we have no trouble pinging the machines but other times we can't ping until we navigate through network neighborhood.

Subnet A 192.168.1.1
Subnet B 192.168.2.1

Connects through 2 cisco 1721 routers
 
Some kind of trust relationship in windows.
