Hi,
How do you ping a Novell 411 file server using the server name? I need to find out what the ip address is on the file server.
Or is there another way to find out? It is not recognizing the name of my organization.
thanks
cmillsy

If you have access to the console run "CONFIG" you will see the IP address.

To ping the name assumes that somewhere someone has entered a IP address associated with a DNS name either on a DNS server or in a HOSTS file.

If you believe that the server name has been entered into a DNS table on a server, you can open the managment console for DNS services and search for the server name.

To scan your local network for all IP addresses and DNS names think about using freeware like Angry IP scanner at http:\\

I tried the config but it did not show what the ip address is. I had this server on a NAT config. I changed to a new server with 5.1. Since I am not the one who loaded the Novell 411, I am flying blind here. I assumed it needed (or had one) an IP as did the 5.1. I need to know what it is in order to go online with it, using a NAT for my dsl line.
Thanks
Cmillsy
