Ping IP but not Server Name

I am running a Windows Server 2003 R2 box as our Print Server. When I try to ping the server name it kicks back a message saying "Ping request could not find host <servername>. Please check the name and try again". But I can ping the IP address without any problems. I also tried to do an ipconfig /release or /renew I get this following message:
"The operation has failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation"

When I do an ipconfig /all it shows an ethernet adapter. I know this is preventing anyone to connect to this printers in the Directory.

If anyone could give me some advice on this I would greatly appreciate it.

I would start by checking over all your DNS settings. Make sure it has an A record in your DNS server also. The error you get from the ipconfig /release /renew is because that command only works if you are using dhcp.

Our DNS Server is running on FreeBSD Unix. How would I go about editing the A record for our Print Server?

Thanks

I know linux pretty well but ive never used freebsd but i would venture a guess it uses bind as its dns daemon. I would log into the freebsd box as root or root equivalent and look for some sort of interface for managing dns. Should be fairly intuitive. On a side note i would always run an windows AD environment on a windows AD integrated dns server, but thats just me and many will tell you they run AD just fine on bind.

If this is a new server then you have to manually add the A record to the DNS service on the Unix box depending on the version of bind your server is running.

You have to excuse me but I am kind of a beginner when it comes to Unix. How would I find out what version of bind we are using and how would I access bind or config file to add the A record?

sorry mjmega but I don't admin unix boxes just know that needs to be done. Your best bet would be to research it or someone else might know here within a unix forum. good luck.
