my company is an isp and we provide leaseline point to point to our clients...i have a problem that i wnt to rectify, in our office we have a maipu 3600 series router similar to the a cisco 3600 capable to handle multiple connectiion via 8 serial ports and we have an E1 and we distribute it to our clients ie..256k, 128 and 64 and so on...my situation is this the other side has a 800 series router same brand and a pair gain modem, pls assume that modem to modem is working properly so my error when im trying to ping the public ip address of a route client side i have this message....reply from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx(its not the ip address im pinging)ttl expired in transit..... what seems to be the problem?

pls. help....thannx in advance...salamat po ...

question is too vaque. u need to give more info. If u say that the modems are up, and that line is not the problem, then check to see if the serial port are up and up,(interface is up and line protocol is up). If this is up and up then check your routing. Same block address for IP, same subnet, check default route. Hope this helps.

thanx for the reply...all my control is up..im stil researching it and all articles that i've read abt ttl expired in transit all pointing to the router problem..certain router is not responding to icmp messages...maybe it's a configuration error..when i erase the current configurationnd reconfigured it...it works but after a week error recur....

Ok, we know that when you reconfigure the router, it works for some time then it fails again. When it is working are you able to ping across the network ?(i know, it sounds like a sily question.).In this scenario there is two points to look into. one, check that the memory usage is not being exceeded this will "tie up" the router and you won't be able to access the network. two, there might be noise on the line. if you check your serial interface you will see if the routers has any 'CRC errors', interface resets, packet losses, and so on. Hope this helps.

Hello, i had the same problem with our internet connection. When i tried to ping a remote ip.....it said "TTL expired in transit". This usually happens when it can't resolve the public ip it's trying to ping, so instead of looping around the internet traffic it send back an error messege.

I was wondering if you found a solution to that problem. Can't figure out if my router has a problem or the ISP provider.

Salamt din sa reply.
