Fun staff is happening.
I just installed Linux red hat 7.3
ifconfig displays the presence of eth0, which is UP BROADCAST MULTICAST. It also configured with ip address and netmask.

When I try to ping anybody on the same wire I'm getting almost immediate message from my ip address that destination is unreachable. And ping packets actually do not leave the box and do not go to wire. Looks like something is blocking them.

Thanks a lot!

Sounds like a bad connection (cable or hub) or misconfigured ip/netmask.
Try as root "tcpdump" to see is you can see ANY network traffic (even try the ping)..

That was a connection problem... :)
Thank a lot!!!

ping the loopback first to see if there is actually a problem with your card 127.0.0.1

Sorry...Guess we were respnding at the same time and you beat me to it! heh

Thanks for advise, anyway!

Actually I was confused with same color cables. I was sure I was using the right one... :)
