Ping Distant ips 1

1-We are not able to ping or trace root any distant ips out side our lan, we always get "destination host unreachable"

2- We are not able to connect to any voice chat sites or active game servers as well .

Our Lan Admin has the same problem as well. We use Winnt 4.o,Novel Netowrks, connected to our ISP via satellite located at another country. Please advise, Thank you.

Make sure you have the correct settings for any dns server, gateway, proxy, etc. Fish

If you use a proxy server, make sure that all the necessary ports are open and that they don't stop your traffic. If you really want to know what traffic is sent use a network sniffer to see what is send and if the host replies or not so you can check were the problem resides.

do you ping the actual ip addy's or just the name? If just the name, then see if you can ping an actual ip addy. If you can, then you may have something wrong with DNS on your proxy

Your proxy or firewall is blocking icmp replys. It's probably only opening certain ports 25 mail 53 dns 80

have u tried a UNIX proxy server.. running IP Masquerading software.. works really well for WKS [Well Known Services] and also adds in a few like chat, voice and alot more... and doesn't require alot of configuration...
