Hi,

Whenever I do a ping -a to any ip address on my subnet I get returned to netbios name of "loopback". It's not just my computers that reports this problem. Does anyone know what is going on?

Thanks

Are you pinging by IP, FQDN or Wins name?

I'm pinging by IP. If I ping by NETBios name then I get the correct IP address but if I do a "ping -a 192.168.0.112" then I get a message stating that I am "pinging loopback".

maybe it can't find DNS, ping -a just resolves to hostname

try an nslookup to see if you can resolve the name that way.

The DNS server is available. For some reason I was thinking that the -a was resolving the netbios name and not the hostname. I don't know what I was thinking.

Update: I do have one DNS server that is not working properly. This is the one that is giving me the loopback problem. If I change my clients to a new DNS server that I installed then everything works great.

Thanks for all of the help.
