Hi guys,

I need some help here. I have been a programmer for the avaya line for over 10 years, but have never had to do the cabling side of things.

I am not a cabling person in anyway so please be kind :)

I am headed out to my first solo install. I will be using CAT5 patch cords for the stations and need to know which pairs and in what order do they go on the 66 block? I know the basic code is BL/O/G/BR, but I also know the partner only needs two pair.

Thanks in advance!

Hello [smile]

When punching down the conductors to the 66 block, they usually go in this order:

White (base)/Blue (stripe)
Blue (base)/White (stripe)
White/Orange
Orange/White
White/Green
Green/White
White/Brown
Brown/White

Partner system telephones need only 2 pairs of wires. Typically the blue & orange pairs are used.

Use the same wiring scheme (568A or 568B) for the entire installation.

If CAT3 wire is available, you could use that instead of CAT5 and maybe save some "$"

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

White/blu and blue /white to the Tip and rings (pin 4 & 5), Polarity does not matter.
White/green and the Green/white to the Data pair (Pair 3 & 6), Polarity does not matter.

Thanks guys!

I like to use the Orange and Brown.... they are the 2 loneliest pairs. ;)
