Pie graphs being eaten

I'm using Illustrator 8.0 in Win NT. I'm creating a series of pie graphs. In the past, I've just taken the one I created previously and changed the graph data to reflect the new numbers. Starting Friday (with no changes to OS or software) whenever I changed the data and pressed apply, the graph disappeared. I was able to create a new graph and change it with no problems, but I want to avoid this in the future. Any ideas?
