Hi all, bare with me as I am a self taught web designer. I know no code...yet. My situation is this: When I build sites I use tables and generally use a picture for navigation on the left hand side of the page. Invariably, no matter what page properties I set up etc. I always get the left hand images moving down when I am updating the the body of the webpage. Now I did a bit of searching last night for anythign similiar and either I am not sure how to "word" this problem or I am a complete idiot, the latter being mostly true. What I did find was validation errors on my web site by using the W3(forgot real name of site) validation site. A lot of missing attributes I think. Is there a way to easily figure out how to rememdythese validation errors? Will someone please hold my hand?

Most grateful for you,
Lisa

Aside from throwing out the tables and replacing all your layout with CSS, which I highly recommend, you could either:
1) Move your navigation map into the same cell (td) with the cheese picture
or

2) Align the map to the top of the cell it is in. By default, it is 'centering' in the cell, thus moving down as you add text to the right hand cell, forcing both to expand.

Ish, (Minnesota talk [smile]), you have a lot of unneeded divs, but I've seen worse.

urgh CSS, every thing in my life is pointing to "I'd better learn CSS", ok, ok I'll work harder on that. And you triggered some great thoughts about how to handle it. I'll putz tonight my fellow Minnesotan!

Thansk again for your time.

Oh TrainGamer! Am I right in assuming using an HTML editor such as DV is swell and all but for the lay designer there is a price to pay, as in language errors?

Dreamweaver is a wonderful product, but it can potentially introduce extra html (such as your extra divs and possibly the blockquote tag) in your code.
It simplifies development, sometimes at the cost of understanding. I find myself mostly in the code view when I use it - love the color coded tags.
In addition, newer versions have pretty good css editing capabilities. But I still use notepad as much as I use Dreamweaver. (Former Minnesotan [smile])
