I am using Quarkxpress 4.0 on a Mac. The problem I have is when scanning pictures at 300dpi and placing them into Quark the preview looks very bad. When I have someone send me a quark file or when they send me pictures they look fine. I have checked the preferences and it is set at 32bit and 256 levels.

If a customer sends me a file of a tif or eps. I place it into quark and it looks great. If I take that file and edit it in photoshop and update, it looks very rough. I could not find a solution in photoshop to help me out. Thanks in advance for everyones help.

Two possibilities come to mind immediately:

1: Are you using EPS files? If so, your preferences won't have any effect as Quark will use the file's build in preview. See if your application has other preview options, or save in another format.

2: Are you enlarging the images significantly in Quark? The preview is generated at 72dpi at actual size, so if you enlarge it substantially, it will break up.

There are XTensions available that give better previewing. Also, read through faq260-3087 (it's a bit old now, but there might be some useful information in there).

can you run through EXACTLY how you are saving your pictures in Photoshop

Kind Regards
Duncan
