Picture Gallery in XP

Can someone please tell me how to get rid of the picture gallery on my desktop (I'm on XP)? I've tried right click but there seems to be no delete option. I've also tried dragging and dropping to the Recycle bin but with no luck. Please help - it's driving me mad!
